Reading a study timetable with realistic durations

Show breaks and units separately when adding study times. Total elapsed time may differ from active study time. A timetable helps examine this mathematically.

A SHORT EXERCISE

Try it yourself first.

Two 25-minute sessions have a 10-minute break between them. Calculate active study time and total elapsed time separately.

View the solution or example answer

Active study is 25 + 25 = 50 minutes. Including the break gives 60 minutes. Allowing only 50 minutes in the day overlooks the break.

Your next step.

Write start, finish and break times separately in your schedule. This example is neither a recommended lesson length nor the duration of a lesson package.
