Speech bubbles representing language and communication

Using location expressions in a scene

Use objects in the same room rather than translating location words individually. Describe one object relative to another and consider how perspective affects the description.

A SHORT EXERCISE

Try it yourself first.

A book is on a table and a bag is under it. Write two sentences, then imagine moving the book beside the bag and write another.

View the solution or example answer

“The book is on the table.”, “The bag is under the table.” and “The book is next to the bag.” reuse the same nouns with different spatial relationships.

Your next step.

Ask a friend to find an object using only your location description. This turns vocabulary into a real communication task.
