Speech bubbles representing language and communication

Practising the past tense through a sequence of events

Build a short event sequence instead of only repeating an irregular verb list. Ask what happened first, what followed and what the outcome was.

A SHORT EXERCISE

Try it yourself first.

Describe a meeting yesterday using “go”, “meet” and “have”. Keep all three sentences in the same time frame.

View the solution or example answer

“I went to the café. I met a friend. We had a long conversation.” uses three past forms. Change the place and events to fit your experience.

Your next step.

Add one question next time. Examine the difference between a past verb in a positive sentence and a question using “did”.
