Steps representing progress in exam preparation

Repeating what you hear in meaningful chunks

Focusing only on individual sounds can overload memory. Notice meaningful groups and natural pauses. Start with short phrases before increasing their length.

A SHORT EXERCISE

Try it yourself first.

Read and listen to “Please bring your notebook / to the next meeting.” in two chunks. Then try saying the whole sentence without looking.

View the solution or example answer

The first chunk contains the action and object, and the second gives context. Chunking helps follow the whole sentence; it is not a reason to omit words or change meaning.

Your next step.

Note which words disappear and retry with a shorter example. This is not an official TOEFL task; it can complement preparation for the current ETS format.
