Speech bubbles representing language and communication

Organising a one-minute talk into three parts

You do not need to cover everything in a short talk. Introduce the topic, give one detail and explain why it matters. This simple structure can help you decide what to say.

A SHORT EXERCISE

Try it yourself first.

Prepare three sentences about an activity you enjoy: what it is, when you do it and why you like it. Explain the ideas in order instead of memorising a script.

View the solution or example answer

“I enjoy reading. I usually read in the evening. It helps me relax.” is a possible start. Add detail about a book or habit rather than unrelated material to fill the time.

Your next step.

Try expressing the same ideas in different words. Listen for a clear flow of thought as well as speed when considering fluency.
